John Clark

Taken from "The History of the Clark Family" by D. Clark McIntosh

John Clark (1789-1868) emigrated Valcartier, Canada from Scotland in 1823 with his wife and the 4 youngest of an eventual 8 children.  He worked on the John Neilson Sr. Estate for apx. two years before applying on March 27, 1826, for a land grant to start his own farm. John's younger brother Samuel, who had emigrated around 1819, also applied for a land grant at the same time. It isn't known what happened to these requests, but both Clark brothers wound up staying and working on the Neilson estate until some time in the 1840's. Samuel married Bridget Mccabe in 1841 and purchased a farm in Riviere aux Pins at that time. John bought a farm in Riviere aux Pins in 1846 and apparently spent the next five years developing this farm while still working on the Neilson Estate. John and Samuel each wound up with 90 acre farms. The Clark clan, eventually owned a great deal of land in and around Valcartier and Riviere aux Pins.

John Clark is the great-great-grandfather of Vivian Viola Dolan Herrington.

There is some speculation that John Clark was actually Robert John Clark. Most evidence however, points to the common name used in old correspondence, John Clark.
